At the heart of The Fox Family Adventures: A Day at the Beach is something very simple: family.
This book began as a project inspired by our daughter and the kind of stories we wanted to share with her. Like so many family projects, though, it quickly became something bigger than we first imagined. It brought together a mom with an idea, a dad willing to learn a few new skills along the way, talented friends who generously shared what they could do, and a little girl who unknowingly inspired the whole adventure.
We didn’t set out to create something perfect. We simply wanted to make something meaningful—something our daughter could grow up with and know was created with her in mind. Somewhere between the writing, illustrations, revisions, late-night ideas, and plenty of trial and error, the Fox family began to feel like a little extension of our own.
That is probably why the things that matter most in the story aren’t really about the beach at all. They’re about spending time together, making mistakes, forgiving one another, meeting new friends, laughing when plans change, and finding something good in an unexpected situation. They’re the kinds of lessons we hope our own family remembers, too.
What started as a story for one little girl has now become something we have the privilege of sharing with other children, parents, grandparents, and families. And that may be our favorite part of the entire journey.
